26 Young soccer stars in the making, ranging from age 13 – 17 years of age, travelled to Mafikeng on the 11-13 of July to participate in an invitational tournament. The tournament is aimed at promoting development at the U16 and U19 levels respectively. It also played host to top local teams. The International school of South Africa (ISSA) were represented by their U16 team and their 1st team. “The Peacemakers” and “Joys Academy” also featured. The young men from Kaela made fantastic memories at the tournament in Mafikeng. The Kaela U16 team opened the tournament account, losing out 2-0 to the ISSA 1st team on Friday afternoon, the 11th of July. The game was an action packed affair, and the players from Kaela fought bravely against players 3 years their seniors. The U17s, who played simultaneously, managed an impressive win, 3-1 against ISSA’s U16 team. The next morning dawned and looked hopeful as the U17s beat the ISSA 1st team 5-3 after a nail-biting penalty shootout. The match had ended in a 1-1 draw during normal regulation time. The U16s drew 2-2 with ISSA’s U16s in their match on Saturday morning. The afternoon matches proved to be smooth sailing, as the Kaela boys coolly concluded the day with a win over peacemakers and Joy Academy respectively. On Sunday morning the players faced a tougher Peacemakers side, the U19’s, to round off the invitational tournament. The boys lost 3-1 to the Peacemakers, who had travelled from the surrounding township to compete against Kaela Club.
